Natural-tips-for-smooth-and-878x1024

It’s almost bare-leg weather. It’s finally time to ditch those thick tights and show some skin. But are you sure that you’re ready to flaunt your bare legs confidently just yet after so many months of cold harsh winter. It is true that throughout the winter, skin severely dehydrates, but it’s our legs and feet that dry out the most due to the poor circulation. Though there are many skin rejuvenation treatments available in beauty spas these days but not all of us can bear the cost of such beauty treatments, plus those are very time consuming too.

Hence, in today’s post I’m going to share few very easy tips that you can try at home while watching TV (Yes in your comfort zone), that will help you getting your sexiest summer legs ever!

Hair Removal

The first step (that everyone knows) is to remove the unwanted hairs from your legs (on your own preferences). For this you can use any of the following techniques: Shaving, Waxing, Sugaring or Laser hair removal.

Skincare

Now, If you’ve used either of the waxing or sugaring techniques (as suggested above) then its advisable not to exfoliate immediately. But if you’re going to use the shaving technique, then you should preferably exfoliate the legs either with a dry body brush or with any good body exfoliating scrub, just before shaving the legs. This will help you deal with ingrown hairs. Using a gentle exfoliating scrub or loofah to remove dead skin buildup can create a smooth base for your bare legs.

Once the dead skin buildup is sloughed off, its time to massage those legs. For this either use a body oil (coconut etc) or some hydrating moisturizer. Start massaging from the ankles, and go upwards in soft, circular motions. After massaging each leg for at least 10-15 minutes, clean them with warm washcloth.

One thing what most women might not know is that there is a DIY mask for dark knee area, that you can try at home. The skin color of knee area is usually a shade or 2 darker than the skin color of the legs which sometimes look very unflattering. This DIY mask can help you deal with this problem.

Process:
1.     Peel garlic and onion and grate both into small chunks and mix them together.
2.    Clean the knee area with luke warm water and rub the mixture on dark knees for 10- 15 minutes.
3.    Wash off with water and mild soap.
4.    Mix 1 teaspoon of glycerin with 1 teaspoon of lemon juice and 2 teaspoons of rosewater.
5.    Apply the mixture to dark skin with the help of cotton.
6.    Wait for 15 minutes and rinse with luke warm water.

Repeat this DIY mask’ing 2 to 3 times a week and you’ll notice a significant difference.

Tip: If you want you can add 1 teaspoon of Gram Flour in this mixture. Gram flour is said to be a natural skin lightening product and is frequently used in Indian beauty routine. You can also make separate mask for legs by mixing 2 tablespoons of gram flour with 1 tablespoon of curd and 1 quarter teaspoon of turmeric powder. Apply it to the clean legs, wait until it gets dry. Remove the mask by rubbing slowly and you’ll get an instant glow!

After the masking, don’t forget to moisturize the legs. A tinted moisturizer can be a quick fix and a simple way to improve the skin tone and add a bit of color without having to commit to weeks of gradual tan application. If this is not sufficient then you can surely use some leg makeup. There are some very good instant leg tanning products available in market like Sally hansen airbrush leg makeup or Hoola body bronzer by Benefit cosmetics!

Exercise

Cardio & Toning: Last but certainly not least, engage yourself in some kind of leg toning exercises. It can be anything from Yoga to high intensity workout. If you’ve a very busy lifestyle, then squats and lunges would do just fine as well. Doing 3 sets of 20 squats and lunges a day can firm up the leg muscles rapidly.

  1. Great tips! Especially the part where you can lighten up the skin of your knees. I don’t see the BF be happy with the garlic mixture though haha. xoxo Sarah

  2. Thanks so much for the tips! I’m definitely trying to get my legs ready for summer too! Another thing I like to do is use self tanner once April/May rolls around! It gives you a head start on getting a healthy, summery glow. My favourite is the Bondi Sands dry oil (and no I’m not sponsored by them, I just love the product that much).
