If you are the one who spend too much on clothing, but still whenever you go to your closet and feel as if you have nothing to wear (when actually your closet is filled with lot of wanted or maybe unwanted pieces), then this post is for ‘You’ 😉 If you’re tired of spending continuously a lot on clothing items and still doesn’t feel happy and content, that means it is the time you should re-organize your closet and finally introduce the concept of ‘Capsule Wardrobe’ in your life!
Being well dressed doesn’t require lots and lots of clothes or many expensive items, you just need to know how to invest in the right pieces and coordinate them well. For this purpose, it is both important to be a smart shopper as well as to be a smart organizer of your wardrobe.
(I know its a loooong post, so just bear with me 😀 )
What Is A Capsule Wardrobe?
I’m sure many of you must already know about this. But if you are the one who is still missing it out… keep reading!
A capsule wardrobe is a ‘mini’ wardrobe: a collection of versatile (basics and key) pieces/items in order to maximize the number of outfits which can be created using the same pieces interchangeably.
The capsule wardrobe is applicable to any style (workwear, loungewear, occasion-wear) aiming to save:
(a) your time to get dressed
(b) money spent on clothes and
(c) of course all the energy thinking about what to wear!
All you have to do is to create a Four Capsule Wardrobes; one for each season and you are good to go!
Idea Of Having One For Yourself!
Starting your own capsule wardrobe that reflects ‘your personal style’, is a very important point to consider before creating one! As one clothing item that can be quite comfortable for one person may be completely out of the comfort zone of some other person. Don’t add items in your capsule wardrobe about which you are not quite sure that you are going to use in future (or for at least next 3 months).
How To Get Started?
* First thing first, you need to clean out your full closet. Take absolutely everything out and start filtering. Make three different piles for ‘Keep’, ‘Donate’ and ‘Discard’. And while doing this “BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF!”
* Now start putting the filtered items back in your closet. These pieces/items should be the ones that you absolutely ‘Love’ wearing. They fit well. They define your style. They compliment your personality very well and you feel comfortable & confident wearing them.
* Once you are finished with this step, make a plan and budget to shop for the missing pieces. Also, If you’re not very comfortable about getting rid of the clothes you just cleaned out, simply store them somewhere else instead! And later, if you realize you miss something, you can go and grab it.
As you go along with the process of building a capsule wardrobe, you can edit it to fit with your own lifestyle! If you need two capsule wardrobes (one for work and one for the weekends), just go for it. The initial idea of building a capsule wardrobe was consisted of 37 pieces (for 3 months) including:
Dresses and Jumpsuit/Romper (in case of summers)
Tops: Shirts, Blouses, Tunics
Bottoms: Shorts, Pants, Jeans, Skirts
Shoes: Heels, Flats, Boots, Sandals
Accessories: Scarves, Jewelry, Belts, Tights etc.
But if you ask me, there are no set rules other than the items you are keeping should fit well to your personal style! As they say, “it’s not meant to be a miserable experience—it’s meant to be more fun and experimental”. Try to keep it simple. The goal is to minimize the total stuff needed. Store or donate what you don’t need right now and try to avoid shopping for at least… until you start planning for the next season!
For me, a capsule wardrobe means more time, money and energy saved for other important matters in life rather than spending a lot of time caring too much about clothes; without even compromising with your style which results in more contentment and happiness! 🙂
